Sydney Swanson joined EWG after working as a research assistant in the UCLA Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Research Lab and the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. She specializes in the analysis of consumer products for EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning and EWG’s Food Scores. Sydney also helped create and specializes in the most recent category of EWG VERIFIED™ products, launched in 2020 – baby care and diapers.

Testing data showed that more than 90% of strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, grapes, and cherries tested positive for two or more pesticides. However, almost 70% of the produce on our clean 15 list had no pesticide residues detected.
